TODOIST MCP SERVER

Connect Todoist to Andromity with the Todoist MCP server

Todoist, built by Doist, hosts an official MCP server at https://ai.todoist.net/mcp. With it, Andromity can read your tasks and projects, add follow-up tasks when it finds work along the way, and update tasks as you finish them.

Sign-in uses OAuth in your browser. Todoist's documentation does not list the exact scopes the server requests, so check the consent screen before you approve.

What the agent can do with Todoist

  • Read tasks and projects, including listing tasks by a filter such as today.
  • Create tasks and projects.
  • Update tasks and projects, including completing tasks.
  • View task attachments.

Example prompts

Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Todoist MCP server”.

  • List my Todoist tasks due today, and tell me which ones relate to the code in this repository.
  • I found three TODOs in the notifications module. Add a Todoist task for each in my Backlog project.
  • I finished the pagination fix in this branch. Find the matching Todoist task and mark it complete.
  • Create a Todoist project called Release 2.4 and add a task for each failing test in the last test run.

Connect Todoist

  1. In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Todoist and select Connect.
  2. Sign in to Todoist in your browser and approve the connection.
  3. Andromity saves Todoist to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it. If you cancel sign-in, nothing is saved.

See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.

Access and safety

  • The agent acts on the Todoist account you sign in with and can read, create and update its tasks and projects.
  • Todoist's repository suggests trying write operations on a test account or a temporary project first.
  • Todoist documents no read-only option for the hosted server. Andromity's permission modes apply to every Todoist tool call, so SAFE mode asks before each one.

In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.

Limits to know

  • Todoist documents no MCP-specific rate limits; its general API request limits are described in its developer docs.
  • The open-source Todoist MCP project describes itself as early stage and says more tools are expected.

Questions

Does Todoist have an official MCP server?
Yes. Todoist hosts one at https://ai.todoist.net/mcp, and the open-source code is in the Doist/todoist-mcp repository.
How does Todoist MCP sign-in work?
It uses OAuth in the browser. Todoist does not document which scopes the server requests, so review the consent screen.
Can the agent delete Todoist tasks?
Todoist's documentation says the server can read, create and update tasks and projects; it does not document deletion.
