APIFY MCP SERVER
Connect Apify to Andromity with the Apify MCP server
Connect Apify's official MCP server to Andromity so your AI coding agent can find and run Actors, read datasets and run logs, and search Apify docs.

Apify hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.apify.com. With it, Andromity can search the Apify Store for Actors, run them, read their datasets and logs, and look up Apify documentation while you build a scraper or pipeline.
Apify recommends OAuth. Your browser opens, you sign in and approve access, and no token goes in a config file.
What the agent can do with Apify
- Search Actors and read their details (search-actors, fetch-actor-details).
- Run an Actor (call-actor). It returns run status and storage IDs, not results.
- Check, list and abort runs, and read run logs (get-actor-run, get-actor-run-list, get-actor-run-log, abort-actor-run).
- Read datasets and key-value stores, including dataset items (get-dataset-items, get-key-value-store-record).
- Search and read Apify docs (search-apify-docs, fetch-apify-docs).
- Create and update Actor tasks and schedules (create-actor-task, create-schedule).
Example prompts
Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Apify MCP server”.
- Find an Apify Actor that scrapes Google Maps reviews, run it for these three places and write the dataset items to a fixture file.
- Check the last run of our product-scraper Actor, read its log and tell me why it failed.
- Search the Apify docs for how to pass proxy settings to an Actor, then update our call in scripts/crawl.ts.
- Create a schedule that runs this Actor task every night.
Connect Apify
- In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Apify and select Connect.
- Sign in to Apify in your browser and approve access.
- Andromity saves Apify to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it.
See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.
Access and safety
- The agent acts with your Apify account. Running Actors uses your account and can cost money, depending on the Actor's pricing.
- Apify says full-permission Actors and rental Actors are not searchable or runnable through the server.
- Apify supports a tools URL parameter that selects tool categories, specific tools or Actors, and advises listing tools explicitly in production. To use it, add the server by hand in mcp.json with that URL and sign in from its card.
- Apify prefers OAuth over a bearer token, because a token in a config file is a credential to keep private.
In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.
Limits to know
- Apify allows up to 30 requests per second per user. Beyond that the server returns HTTP 429.
- call-actor waits 0 to 45 seconds, 30 by default, so long runs need follow-up calls to check status.
- Without sign-in only the discovery and docs tools work. Running Actors and reading storage requires auth.
- The server collects tool-call metadata by default and does not collect conversations, tool arguments or API tokens. Apify documents telemetry-enabled=false to opt out.
Questions
- Does Apify have an official MCP server?
- Yes. Apify hosts it at https://mcp.apify.com and documents it on docs.apify.com.
- Do I need an Apify API token?
- No. Apify recommends OAuth, which Andromity uses. A bearer token is documented as an alternative.
- Can the agent get Actor results directly from call-actor?
- No. call-actor returns run status and storage IDs. The agent then reads results with get-dataset-items.
