RENDER MCP SERVER
Connect Render to Andromity with the Render MCP server
Connect Render's official MCP server to Andromity: let your AI coding agent read deploy logs and metrics, trigger deploys, and query Render Postgres while it codes.

Render hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.render.com/mcp. With it, Andromity can list your services, read logs and metrics, trigger a deploy, update environment variables, and run read-only SQL against a Render Postgres database.
Andromity connects with a Render API key sent as a Bearer token. You create the key in the Render Dashboard and paste it at Connect. Render recommends an API key only where OAuth isn't available.
What the agent can do with Render
- List workspaces and services and get service details (list_workspaces, list_services, get_service).
- Create web services, static sites and cron jobs (create_web_service, create_static_site, create_cron_job).
- Trigger deploys and read deploy history (trigger_deploy, list_deploys, get_deploy).
- Read service logs with filters (list_logs, list_log_label_values) and service events (list_events).
- Read CPU, memory and other metrics (get_metrics).
- Update a service's environment variables (update_environment_variables).
- Run read-only SQL against Render Postgres and list or create databases (query_render_postgres, list_postgres_instances, create_postgres).
- List, read and create Render Key Value instances (list_key_value, get_key_value, create_key_value).
Example prompts
Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Render MCP server”.
- The api service on Render returned 500s after the last deploy. Read its recent logs, find the error and fix it in this repository.
- Query the orders table in our Render Postgres database and tell me whether any rows violate the constraint this migration adds.
- Check CPU and memory metrics for the worker service over the last day and tell me if the instance size in render.yaml looks right.
- Add a REDIS_URL environment variable to the web service pointing at our Key Value instance, then trigger a deploy.
Connect Render
- In the Render Dashboard, open Account Settings and create an API key (https://dashboard.render.com/u/settings?add-api-key).
- In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Render and select Connect.
- Paste the API key. Andromity sends a test request first and saves nothing if Render rejects it.
- The key is kept in Andromity's encrypted token store, not in mcp.json.
- Tell the agent which workspace to use, or pass the workspace ID in your prompt.
See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.
Access and safety
- The key acts with your Render account's access, and every action is scoped to a workspace. Keep the key out of shared or version-controlled config files.
- Render warns that the server supports potentially destructive actions, such as changing environment variables and triggering deploys, and says to authorize only accounts and tools you trust.
- Render does not guarantee that secrets such as connection strings stay out of the AI app's context. Be careful when working with secrets.
- Andromity's permission modes apply to every Render tool call.
In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.
Limits to know
- Update tools for web services, static sites and cron jobs don't apply changes; they return a Dashboard link. Other changes and deletions need the Dashboard or REST API.
- Deploying prebuilt images from a container registry isn't supported.
- Postgres queries are read-only. The hosted server has no IP addresses to allowlist, so IP-restricted databases need the local server.
- Metrics must fall within the last 30 days, and response-time metrics need a Pro workspace or higher.
Questions
- Does Render have an official MCP server?
- Yes. Render hosts one at https://mcp.render.com/mcp and publishes the open-source render-oss/render-mcp-server.
- Can the agent delete Render services?
- No. Render's docs say deletions and most changes to existing resources need the Dashboard or REST API.
- Can the agent change my database?
- Not through the MCP server. Postgres queries are read-only, though it can create new databases.
