UPSTASH MCP SERVER
Connect Upstash to Andromity with the Upstash MCP server
Connect Upstash's official MCP server to Andromity: let your AI coding agent manage Redis, QStash, Workflow, Vector and Blob resources with a read-only option.

Upstash hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.upstash.com/mcp. It covers Redis, QStash, Workflow, Vector, Search, Box and Blob, so Andromity can inspect or create databases, query indexes, check QStash logs and dead-letter queues, and manage Blob buckets while it works on your code.
Sign-in is OAuth. A browser consent page lets you choose the account scope (personal or a team) and whether the connection is read-only.
What the agent can do with Upstash
- List, inspect and create Redis databases and backups, and run Redis commands (redis_run_command).
- Inspect QStash and Workflow schedules, logs, flow control and dead-letter queues, and publish a message.
- List and manage Vector and Search indexes and namespaces, and query or upsert data (vector_query, search_query, vector_upsert, search_upsert).
- Work with Upstash Box: logs, metrics, git, exec, schedules, environment and snapshots.
- Manage Blob buckets and objects, and create presigned upload URLs (blob_bucket, blob_upload_url, blob_object).
Example prompts
Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Upstash MCP server”.
- Check the stats and eviction settings of the Upstash Redis database used by this app and tell me whether the cache keys in src/cache.ts fit within it.
- Our QStash jobs for the email worker are failing. Read the recent logs and dead-letter queue, then fix the handler in api/email.ts.
- Query the Upstash Vector index for the five nearest results to a sample embedding and check that our search function returns the same ones.
- List the keys in the staging Redis database that match session:* and write a test that covers the expiry behavior we see.
Connect Upstash
- You need an Upstash account.
- In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Upstash and select Connect.
- In the browser consent page, pick the account scope and choose whether the connection is read-only, then approve.
- Andromity saves Upstash to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it.
See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.
Access and safety
- Read-only is available for OAuth grants. The server then disables state-changing tools and omits credential fields from results.
- Grants are per client. You can revoke them in the Upstash console under Account → OAuth Clients.
- Upstash lets you limit products by adding ?features= to the URL, with values redis, qstash_workflow, vector_search, box and blob. To use it, add the server by hand in mcp.json and sign in from its card.
- Upstash marks redis_run_command as destructive. Andromity's permission modes apply to every tool call; SAFE mode asks before each one.
In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.
Limits to know
- A Box API key created with box_apikey outlives the OAuth grant that created it. Revoke it when you no longer need it.
- Presigned upload URLs last at most 10 minutes, and Blob listings return 1,000 objects per page.
Questions
- Does Upstash have an official MCP server?
- Yes. Upstash hosts a remote server at https://mcp.upstash.com/mcp that covers Redis, QStash, Workflow, Vector, Search, Box and Blob.
- Can I give the agent read-only access to Upstash?
- Yes. Choose read-only on the Upstash consent page. The server then disables state-changing tools.
- Can I limit the agent to Redis only?
- Yes. Upstash supports a ?features=redis query parameter on the server URL. Add that URL by hand in mcp.json.
