POSTMAN MCP SERVER

Connect Postman to Andromity with the Postman MCP server

Connect Postman's official MCP server to Andromity: let your AI coding agent work with collections, specs, environments and mocks, or generate client code.

Postman hosts an official MCP server. Andromity uses the full toolset at https://mcp.postman.com/mcp, which exposes all Postman API tools (Postman says 100+). With it, the agent can read and update collections, workspaces, specifications, environments, mocks and monitors while it works on your API code.

On the US remote server, Postman recommends OAuth, so connecting is a browser sign-in with no API key to create.

What the agent can do with Postman

  • Work with workspaces, collections, environments and specifications.
  • Create and manage mock servers and monitors.
  • Read and update API documentation, comments and tags.
  • Generate client code from API definitions (the /code configuration).
  • Search Postman Docs (the /learn configuration).

Example prompts

Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Postman MCP server”.

  • Update the Postman collection for this service to include the new /v2/invoices endpoint I added in src/routes/invoices.ts.
  • Compare the OpenAPI spec in this repo with the specification stored in our Postman workspace and list what differs.
  • Add a staging environment to the Payments workspace with the base URL from .env.staging.example.

Connect Postman

  1. You need a Postman account.
  2. In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Postman and select Connect.
  3. Approve the connection in your browser.
  4. Andromity saves Postman to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it.

See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.

Access and safety

  • Postman offers three US configurations: minimal at https://mcp.postman.com/minimal (essential tools, the default in Postman's docs), code at /code, and full at /mcp. Fewer loaded tools means lower token use and easier tool choice for the agent. To use minimal, add that URL by hand in mcp.json and sign in from its card.
  • Andromity's permission modes apply to every Postman tool call.
  • The remote server has no network access to your workstation. Postman says to use the local server to test local APIs.

In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.

Limits to know

  • The EU remote server (https://mcp.eu.postman.com) supports API key authentication only, not OAuth, so it cannot be connected from Discover.
  • The remote servers collect anonymous telemetry, according to Postman.
  • The Context Graph configuration requires that Context Graph be enabled for your team.

Questions

Does Postman have an official MCP server?
Yes. Postman runs remote servers for the US and EU regions and publishes a local npm package, @postman/postman-mcp-server.
Which Postman MCP URL does Andromity use?
The full toolset at https://mcp.postman.com/mcp. For the smaller default set, add https://mcp.postman.com/minimal by hand.
Does Postman MCP work with the EU region?
The EU remote server needs an API key and does not support OAuth. Add it by hand in mcp.json with an Authorization header.
