Connect Prisma Postgres to Andromity with the Prisma MCP server

Prisma hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.prisma.io/mcp. With it, Andromity can look at your Prisma Postgres databases, introspect a schema, run SQL while debugging, create databases and connection strings, and read deployment logs for Prisma Compute apps.

Connecting is a browser sign-in with your Prisma account. You then select a workspace and approve access.

What the agent can do with Prisma Postgres

• Fetch workspace details and list, create or delete Prisma Postgres databases (list_prisma_postgres_databases, create_prisma_postgres_database).
• Introspect a database schema and run SQL (introspect_database_schema, execute_sql_query).
• Apply schema changes (execute_prisma_postgres_schema_update).
• List, create and delete connection strings for a database (list_prisma_postgres_connection_strings).
• List backups and restore one into a new database (list_prisma_postgres_backups, create_prisma_postgres_recovery).
• Manage Object Storage buckets and access keys (list_object_store_buckets, create_object_store_bucket_key).
• Read Prisma Compute deployment logs and manage existing deployments, including promote and rollback (get_prisma_compute_deployment_logs, rollback_prisma_compute_app).
• Set and delete Compute environment variables, and search Prisma documentation (set_prisma_compute_env_var, search_prisma_documentation).

Example prompts

Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Prisma Postgres MCP server”.

• Introspect the schema of my staging Prisma Postgres database and tell me whether it matches schema.prisma in this repo.
• The orders endpoint returns duplicates in production. Run a read-only SQL query against the Prisma Postgres database to find the duplicate rows, then fix the query in src/orders.ts.
• Create a new Prisma Postgres database for this feature branch and give me a connection string to put in .env.local.
• Read the latest deployment logs for the api Compute app and find the cause of the startup error.

Connect Prisma Postgres

1. You need a Prisma account with a workspace.
2. In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Prisma Postgres and select Connect.
3. Sign in to Prisma in your browser, select a workspace and approve access.
4. Andromity saves Prisma to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it. If you cancel sign-in, nothing is saved.

Access and safety

• The agent works inside the workspace you approved at sign-in.
• Prisma warns that tools that change or delete resources can cause data loss or interrupt live traffic. Check the target workspace and resources before approving any operation.
• execute_sql_query can read, modify or delete data, and several delete tools are permanent. Use SAFE mode, which asks before every tool call, when pointing the agent at a database you care about.
• In TRUST mode Andromity asks before tools whose names contain write, insert, update, delete, create, drop, push, exec or post. A tool such as rollback_prisma_compute_app contains none of those words, so it would run without a prompt.

In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.

Limits to know

• The Compute tools manage existing apps and deployments. They do not build or upload source code.
• create_prisma_postgres_recovery creates a new database from a backup. It does not overwrite the existing one.

Can the agent delete my database?

The server has a delete_prisma_postgres_database tool, and deletion is permanent. Keep SAFE mode on so you approve each call.
