Netlify offers an official MCP server, and recommends the remote one at https://netlify-mcp.netlify.app/mcp for the most current capabilities. With it, Andromity can work with your Netlify projects, environment variables and secrets, access controls, extensions, team information and form submissions, and use Netlify's CLI knowledge when deploying.
Connecting is a browser sign-in: sign in with Netlify in your browser and approve the connection.
What the agent can do with Netlify
- Manage Netlify projects.
- Manage environment variables and secrets for a project.
- Manage access controls and extensions.
- Look up user and team information.
- Read form submissions.
- Use Netlify CLI expertise for tasks such as linking a site and deploying.
Example prompts
Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Netlify MCP server”.
- List the environment variables on the Netlify project for this repository and tell me which ones the code no longer reads.
- Add a CONTACT_EMAIL environment variable to the Netlify project for this repo, then update the form handler to use it.
- Check recent form submissions on the contact form and write a test for the case that is failing validation.
- Link this repository to its Netlify project and deploy a preview of the current branch.
Connect Netlify
- In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Netlify and select Connect.
- Sign in with Netlify in your browser and approve the connection.
- Andromity saves Netlify to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it.
See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.
Access and safety
- The agent works with the Netlify account you sign in with.
- Netlify's docs do not describe a read-only endpoint or scoping options for the remote server.
- Andromity's permission modes apply to every Netlify tool call, which matters for changes to environment variables and secrets.
In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.
Limits to know
- Netlify's documentation names capabilities rather than individual tools, so tool names are not listed here.
- Netlify also documents a local server, run with npx -y @netlify/mcp, for environments where the remote server does not fit.
Questions
- Does Netlify have an official MCP server?
- Yes. Netlify documents a remote server at https://netlify-mcp.netlify.app/mcp and a local one run with npx -y @netlify/mcp, and recommends the remote server.
- Does Andromity work with the Netlify MCP server?
- Yes. Connect it from Discover with a browser sign-in.
- Can the agent read my Netlify environment variables?
- Netlify lists environment variables and secrets among the things the server manages. Andromity's permission modes let you approve each call.
