NEON MCP SERVER
Connect Neon Postgres to Andromity with the Neon MCP server
Connect Neon’s official MCP server to Andromity: create branches, run SQL, prepare safe migrations and tune slow queries on serverless Postgres from your AI coding agent.

Neon hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.neon.tech/mcp for its serverless Postgres. Connected to Andromity, the agent can create a database branch for a feature, try a migration on it, and look at slow queries while it changes the code that runs them.
You connect with a browser sign-in. Neon’s consent page has an “Allow writes” checkbox; leave it unchecked for read-only access.
What the agent can do with Neon
- List, describe and create projects and organizations.
- Create, reset and delete branches, and manage roles and databases.
- Run SQL and transactions, and describe tables and schemas.
- Prepare a migration on a temporary branch, then complete it once you’ve checked it.
- Find slow queries, explain statements and tune queries.
- Look up Neon documentation.
Example prompts
Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Neon MCP server”.
- Create a Neon branch called feature-invoices, add the new invoices table there and point my .env.local at it.
- Prepare a migration that adds an index on orders.customer_id, show me the plan, and complete it only after I approve.
- List the slowest queries on the dev branch and suggest index or query changes in this repository.
Connect Neon
- In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Neon and select Connect.
- Approve the connection in your browser. Leave “Allow writes” unchecked if the agent should only read.
- To fix the connection to one project or to read-only, add Neon by hand in mcp.json with ?projectId=YOUR_PROJECT or ?readonly=true, then sign in from its card.
See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.
Access and safety
- Neon says the server is for local development, IDE workflows and testing, not production. Don’t connect it to production databases, and use anonymized data.
- Neon asks you to review and authorize actions the model requests before they run. Andromity’s SAFE mode asks before every tool call.
- In read-only mode, SQL runs in a read-only transaction and write, migration and tuning tools are unavailable.
In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.
Limits to know
- The SSE endpoint, https://mcp.neon.tech/sse, is deprecated; Andromity uses /mcp.
- If IP Allow is on for your project, Neon lists the addresses to allowlist in its docs.
Questions
- Can Andromity create Neon branches?
- Yes. With write access, the agent can create, reset and delete branches through Neon’s MCP server, and run SQL on them.
- Should I connect my production Neon database?
- No. Neon says its MCP server is meant for development and testing, not production.
