Airtable hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp, available on every Airtable plan. Connected to Andromity, the agent can read the base behind a feature, check real records while it writes import or sync code, and create records in bulk from a script it just wrote.

Andromity connects to Airtable with a personal access token. It checks the token with Airtable before saving it and keeps it in its encrypted token store.

What the agent can do with Airtable

  • Search and analyze data in bases.
  • Create and update records.
  • List workspaces and create bases with tables and fields.
  • Read interface pages and their records.
  • Create interfaces and pages.
  • List, inspect, create, update and delete automations.

Example prompts

Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Airtable MCP server”.

  • Read the Customers table in our CRM base and write a TypeScript type that matches its fields.
  • Check the last 20 records in the Imports table and find which ones this parser would reject.
  • Create a base for tracking this project’s release checklist with tables for items and owners.

Connect Airtable

  1. Create a personal access token at airtable.com/create/tokens. For read-only use, Airtable lists the scopes data.records:read, schema.bases:read, data.recordComments:read and workspacesAndBases:read. Add write scopes only if the agent should change data, and limit the token to the bases it needs.
  2. In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Airtable, select Connect and paste the token.
  3. Andromity sends a test request to Airtable; if Airtable rejects the token, nothing is saved.

See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.

Access and safety

  • Tool calls follow your role in each base: Owners, Creators and Editors can edit; Commenters and Read-only users can only read.
  • On Enterprise plans, an admin may need to allowlist the MCP integration.

In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.

Limits to know

  • Creating records is limited to 10 per request, and standard Airtable API rate limits apply.
  • Automations created through MCP are saved as drafts; turn them on in Airtable. Automations with Script actions can’t be created or edited.
  • Existing interfaces can’t be edited through MCP.

Questions

Does Airtable have an official MCP server?
Yes. Airtable hosts one at https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp on every plan, with no extra charge for MCP.
Which Airtable token scopes should I use?
For read-only access Airtable lists data.records:read, schema.bases:read, data.recordComments:read and workspacesAndBases:read. Add write scopes only if needed.
