Linear hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.linear.app/mcp. With it, Andromity can pick up the issue you’re working on, read its context, and file follow-up issues or comments when it finds something along the way.
Linear supports dynamic client registration, so connecting is a single browser sign-in.
What the agent can do with Linear
- Find issues, projects and comments.
- Create and update issues and projects.
- Add comments to issues.
Example prompts
Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Linear MCP server”.
- Read Linear issue ENG-312, implement it on this branch and comment on the issue with what changed.
- I found two TODOs in the billing module. Create a Linear issue for each in the Payments team.
- List my in-progress Linear issues and tell me which ones this diff touches.
Connect Linear
- In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Linear and select Connect.
- Approve the connection in your browser.
- Andromity saves Linear to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it.
See Connect an app for how Andromity stores connectors and tokens.
Access and safety
- Linear documents a read-only endpoint, https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly, that exposes only read tools. To use it, add a server with that URL in mcp.json and sign in from its card.
- Andromity’s permission modes apply to every Linear tool call.
In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.
Limits to know
- Reconnecting does not switch workspaces. Linear suggests a separate sign-in per workspace.
- The SSE endpoint, https://mcp.linear.app/sse, is deprecated; Andromity uses /mcp.
Questions
- Does Andromity work with the Linear MCP server?
- Yes. Connect it from Discover with one browser sign-in; Linear supports automatic client registration.
- Can I give the agent read-only access to Linear?
- Yes. Linear’s https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly endpoint exposes only read tools. Add it as a server in mcp.json.
