Connect Intercom to Andromity with the Intercom MCP server

Intercom hosts an official MCP server at https://mcp.intercom.com/mcp. With it, Andromity can read the support conversation behind a bug report, look up the contact or company involved, and update the Help Center article that describes the behavior you just changed.

Sign-in uses OAuth. Your browser shows an Intercom consent page for the connecting app, then Intercom's authorization screen. Intercom also documents a bearer-token option, which Andromity's one-click connect does not use.

What the agent can do with Intercom

• Search conversations by state, author, assignee, source and timing, and read a full conversation (search_conversations, get_conversation).
• Search contacts by name, email, phone, custom attributes or email domain, and fetch contact details (search_contacts, get_contact).
• List companies and fetch company details (list_companies, get_company).
• List, search and read Help Center articles (list_articles, search_articles, get_article).
• Create and update Help Center articles (create_article, update_article).
• Add an internal note to a conversation (add_internal_note). It cannot send a customer-visible reply.
• Use the general search and fetch tools to query conversations or contacts and load full records by ID (search, fetch).

Example prompts

Ask for the work in plain language. Naming the server helps, for example “use the Intercom MCP server”.

• Search Intercom for open conversations that mention a 500 error on checkout, then find the handler in this repo that could produce it.
• Read Intercom conversation 1234 and write a failing test in tests/ that reproduces what the customer describes.
• I changed the CSV export format. Find the matching Help Center article in Intercom and update it to describe the new columns.
• Look up the Intercom company Acme Corp and tell me which custom attributes our onboarding code should set for it.

Connect Intercom

1. In VS Code, open Andromity Hub → MCP Servers → Discover. In the terminal app, open /settings → MCP → + Connect an app. Find Intercom and select Connect.
2. Your browser opens Intercom's consent page. Check that the "Redirects to" address matches what you expect, then choose Allow and approve on Intercom's authorization screen.
3. Andromity saves Intercom to ~/.andromity/mcp.json and connects it. If you cancel sign-in, nothing is saved.

Access and safety

• The connection needs permission to read users and companies, read conversations, and read and write articles. Writing conversations is needed only for add_internal_note.
• Internal notes are attributed to the admin who authorized the connection. Authorship cannot be set per call.
• Intercom advises checking the "Redirects to" address on the consent page before choosing Allow, and choosing Cancel if you did not start the connection. Intercom does not verify the client app name shown there.
• Andromity's permission modes apply to every Intercom tool call. In TRUST mode, tools such as create_article and update_article ask first.

In an untrusted folder, MCP servers don’t start at all. Read workspace trust and permission modes for the full model.

Limits to know

• Intercom lists US and EU hosted workspaces as supported and AU hosted workspaces as not supported. The EU endpoint is https://mcp.eu.intercom.com/mcp; to use it, add it as a server by hand in mcp.json.
• Intercom pre-approves a set of clients. For OAuth clients outside that set, redirect URIs other than localhost or 127.0.0.1 must be added to an allowlist through Intercom Customer Support.
• Search tools return up to 150 items per page. Intercom API rate limits apply.
• A 401 when adding a note usually means the connection was made before the write permission existed. Disconnect and reconnect.
• The SSE endpoint, https://mcp.intercom.com/sse, is deprecated; Andromity uses /mcp.

Questions

Does Intercom have an official MCP server?

Yes. Intercom hosts a remote MCP server at https://mcp.intercom.com/mcp, with an EU endpoint at https://mcp.eu.intercom.com/mcp.

Can the agent reply to customers in Intercom?

No. The only conversation write tool is add_internal_note, which adds an internal note and cannot send a customer-visible reply.

Does the Intercom MCP server work with EU workspaces?

Yes. Intercom documents an EU endpoint, and EU requests are processed in the EU. Add that URL by hand in mcp.json. AU hosted workspaces are not supported.
