Preferences
Every setting on Andromity's Preferences tab, what it does and where it is stored, plus a reference for all andromity.* VS Code settings.
Open Settings → Preferences in VS Code (or Settings, Ctrl+E, in the terminal app). Changes save as soon as you make them.
Andromity keeps settings in two places:
config.toml, shared by the VS Code extension, the terminal app and headless runs. See Where keys are stored for its location.- VS Code settings (
andromity.*), for things only the extension uses.
Permission Governance Mode
How much the agent may do without asking: SAFE, TRUST, FULL or YOLO. Switching to FULL or YOLO asks you to confirm. The same setting is behind the mode control in chat and /mode. See Permission Modes.
Stored in [default] permission_mode and andromity.permissionMode. Default: safe.
Startup Session Restoration
What the chat shows when VS Code starts or the panel reopens:
- Fresh Session (default): an empty session. Earlier sessions stay in the sessions drawer.
- Last Session: the session you were last using.
Stored in andromity.startupSession (fresh or last).
Live Waterfall Auto-Open
Whether the Waterfall panel opens beside the chat when a session starts. You can always open it from the chat's top bar.
Stored in andromity.waterfallAutoOpen. Default: on.
Agent Profile
The default profile for new sessions: Builder, Coder, Reviewer or Planner.
Stored in [default] profile. Default: builder.
Reasoning Effort
How much the model thinks before answering, for models that support it. The choices come from the selected model: Auto (the provider's default), named levels such as Low, Medium and High, or a thinking-token budget for models that use one. You can also change it per session from the chat's model control.
Stored in [default] reasoning_effort: auto, a level name, or budget:<tokens>. Default: auto.
Your Name and Your Email
Saved in config.toml under [user] name and [user] email. Andromity doesn't add them to prompts or commits.
Max Parallel Subagents
How many subagents can run at the same time. Extra subagents wait for a free slot.
Stored in [subagents] max_concurrent. Default: 5. In the terminal app: /subagent config max_concurrent <n>.
Auto-Compact Context
When a conversation passes 80% of the model's context window (or 1,000 messages), Andromity summarizes the older turns into one message and keeps the most recent ones. The context indicator in chat updates as soon as compaction finishes and shows an estimate, marked ~, until the next reply reports the exact size.
Turn it off to compact only when you run /compact or select Compact now in the context indicator. With it off, a long conversation can fail once it no longer fits the model.
Stored in [advanced] auto_compact. Default: on.
Sound Notifications
A short sound when a turn finishes or when the agent needs your approval.
Stored in andromity.soundNotifications, and as [default] sound_done and [default] sound_attention. Default: on.
Anonymous Telemetry
Sends anonymous usage data with a random install ID: OS, app version, provider and model names, reasoning mode, coarse session statistics, error categories, and the names of features used (for example fingerprint). Prompts, code, file paths, model output and API keys are never sent.
The checkbox is on only when all three of these allow it, and turning it off turns off both Andromity settings:
- VS Code's own telemetry setting
andromity.telemetry[default] telemetryinconfig.toml
Any of these environment variables also turns telemetry off: DO_NOT_TRACK=1, ANDROMITY_NO_TELEMETRY=1 or CI=1.
Git Co-Author Attribution
Adds this trailer to commit messages Andromity writes and to commits the agent makes:
Co-authored-by: Andromity <333054755+andromity-bot@users.noreply.github.com>Stored in andromity.includeCoAuthor, copied to [default] include_co_author. Default: on.
VS Code settings reference
Search for andromity in VS Code's Settings editor, or add these to settings.json.
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
andromity.permissionMode | safe | Permission mode: safe, trust, full or yolo. |
andromity.startupSession | fresh | Session to open on start: fresh or last. |
andromity.waterfallAutoOpen | true | Open the Waterfall panel when a session starts. |
andromity.soundNotifications | true | Sounds when a turn finishes or approval is needed. |
andromity.includeCoAuthor | true | Add the Andromity co-author trailer to commits. |
andromity.telemetry | true | Anonymous usage telemetry. Also follows VS Code's telemetry setting. |
andromity.autoOpenSidebar | always | Open the Andromity sidebar when VS Code starts: always, firstTime (only after install) or never. |
andromity.mascotEnabled | true | Show the Andro-Pet companion. |
andromity.wallpaper.enabled | false | Ambient wallpaper behind the chat. |
andromity.wallpaper.rippleIntensity | medium | Wallpaper ripples: off, light, medium or strong. |
andromity.wallpaper.floatingAsterisks | true | Floating particles on the wallpaper. |
andromity.wallpaper.cursorLightAura | true | Spotlight that follows the cursor. |
andromity.ollamaHost | unset | Address of your Ollama server. When set, it is saved as the Ollama address in config.toml, so the terminal app uses it too. User settings only. See Local models. |
andromity.pythonPath | empty | Python interpreter with Andromity installed. Empty means detect automatically. |
andromity.serverPort | 0 | Connect to an Andromity engine already listening on this TCP port. 0 starts the engine inside the extension. |
andromity.gatewayUrl | empty | Override the AgenticMarket gateway URL. Accepts https on agenticmarket.dev, or a loopback address for local development. |
andromity.webAppUrl | empty | Override the AgenticMarket sign-in site. Same rules as gatewayUrl. |
gatewayUrl and webAppUrl can only be set in user settings, not per workspace.
andromity.defaultProvider, andromity.defaultModel, andromity.defaultProfile and andromity.reasoningEffort are deprecated and have no effect; VS Code shows them struck through. Set the provider and model in the Model Hub, and the profile and reasoning effort on this tab. They are stored in config.toml.
Settings without a control
Edit these in config.toml:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
[advanced] max_file_size_kb | 500 | Largest file read_file will read, in KB. |
[tools] default_timeout_seconds | 300 | Time limit for a single tool call, including MCP tools. |

MCP Servers
Connect Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to Andromity in VS Code and the terminal. Config files and fields, local and remote servers, OAuth and access tokens, how the agent discovers MCP tools, approvals, folder trust and troubleshooting.
Personalisation
Customise how Andromity looks in VS Code. Turn the Andro-Pet companion on or off and set up the ambient wallpaper, water ripples, floating particles and cursor spotlight.
